The Nintendo Switch 2 caused a massive online halt for retailers as they struggled to keep up with demand from enthusiastic gamers after sales were delayed due to tariffs on Japanese exports.
Target, Best Buy and Walmart all had issues with their websites when fans were allowed to pre-order the highly anticipated gaming console on Thursday morning, according to Downdetector.
Over 2,000 customers Target Website Approximately 45 minutes after the console can be ordered in the middle of the night.
Best BuyI ran into a problem that required a customer to have an account to place pre-orders and continued from around 9pm on Wednesday until around 2am on Thursday.
Some gamers looking to secure pre-orders on Best Buy were greeted with a “coming soon” prompt instead of a pre-order button 30 minutes after the sale was published. IGN.
Walmart It also gave gamers some issues for about 15 minutes on Wednesday around 9pm, with 55% of more than 1,700 reports claiming they have problems accessing retailer apps.
Target, Best Buy and Walmart all sold out from the console within minutes of pre-order sales.
GameStop is set to start pre-orders at 11am ET. Amazon is not configured to get pre-orders on Switch 2.
Nintendo excited gamers and dedicated fans when it revealed the Switch 2 on April 2nd.
The imported consoles in Japan were initially scheduled for pre-order sales on April 9th, but plans were quickly changed due to “the impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.”
The pre-orders are expected to begin on the same day as Trump’s massive “liberation day,” and he imposed a new mutual tariff on Japan, including a 24% collection.
The fee went into effect on April 9th, but was suspended by Trump a few hours later. Trump has issued a 90-day grace period to allow negotiations amid the wild fluctuations in U.S. stock and bond markets.
Unlike the US, pre-orders for Switch 2 in other regions, including the UK, continued as planned.
Nintendo confirmed that the global launch date for the Switch 2 remains the same, and that it is still scheduled for release on June 5th.
Following the release of the original Switch in March 2017, it is the latest next-generation console released by Nintendo. However, console updates and changes have been released for many years since the first switch hit the market.
The Nintendo’s Switch 2 is a retailer for $449.99 and has the option of paying an additional $50 to preload the Mario Kart World Bundle.
Since tariffs were imposed on “Liberation Day,” Trump himself has joined the trade talks with Japan.
