Republican Florida Rep. Byron Donald said in a podcast Thursday that Vice President JD Vance will be a scary opponent for other Republican candidates in the 2028 presidential election.

“What I say is the leader of the JD clubhouse,” Donald said. “I think we’re like we’re in the first round at the Masters right now. He has a lead.”

Vance held a ceremony at the White House on April 4th to celebrate his mother, Beverly Ikins’s decade of drinking, the White House announced on April 7th.
Vance’s 2016 memoir, “Hilbilly Elegy,” documented the struggle of her mother Addictivewhich began when she used painkillers to relieve headaches, and then led to the use of Percocet and heroin. Vance was placed in the car of his mother’s grandparents, James and Bonnie Vance, who followed his mother’s arrest with the child.
Vance is the vice president of the first sitting team to take on the role of the RNC Campaign Finance Chair, and is one of the GOP’s major fundraisers in the country and will play a key role in overseeing the course in the middle and beyond of 2026. The position provides him with access to major Republican donors and the ability to build relationships with them, solidifying his position as a clear leader in the 2028 GOP nomination, GOP strategists and experts told DCNF in March.
