A Mexican man who previously illegally lived in the United States was arrested after “sexually abusing” a teenage boy while playing hide and seek in Florida, authorities said Thursday.
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Plumel said in a video message that Samuel Cobos Carmona, 20, was accused of violently sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy in the woods behind his family’s home.
The incident occurred on April 13th when Cobos-Carmona became friends with the victim and her 8-year-old child.

“While we were in the woods with these two, he sexually abused the teens both verbally and with Annaly,” Plumel said.
Cobos-Carmona was later arrested by lawmakers on Monday and pleaded to the crime, Prummell said. According to prison records, he is charged with indecent, light-hearted batteries against a victim between the ages of 12 and 16.
He first illegally entered the United States in 2021, but was captured and deported to Mexico. He returned illegally in 2022 and arrived in Florida after fleeing Texas authorities, the sheriff said.
He was later discovered in Sarasota in July 2024, but was released under the Biden administration’s catch and release policy, the sheriff said.
“People often wonder why me and my fellow sheriffs in Florida work with federal partners to round up individuals like this and drive hell out of here,” Plumel said. “That’s why.”

Prummell also criticized cities and states for their sanctuary policies that restrict cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.
“They should be ashamed of themselves,” he said. These jurisdictions accused the security of illegal immigrants of crimes over American citizens and children.
