Massachusetts DA addresses New England serial killer fears

Massachusetts’ Hamden County District Attorney addressed rumors of a New England serial killer on Thursday after discovering the body of a woman on a Springfield bike path on Tuesday.

The death of the woman comes amid rumors circulating online about a possible New England serial killer, mostly after the deaths of seven and eight people between March and April in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. As of Friday, authorities have not announced any relationship between the deaths of the eight victims.

It is unknown how the Springfield woman died and the local medical inspector is conducting an autopsy, but Hamden County Da Anthony Garni said his office is thoroughly investigating each of the violence in the Springfield community.

“Our hearts are directed towards grieving families,” Garni said.

His office urged the public to pay attention to the role of social media in spreading false information and unverified claims that “can compromise on active investigations and contribute to a sense of chaos that doesn’t reflect the big picture.”

“We are actively working on every lead and deploying all the resources available,” Garni added. “At this point there is no indication that these incidents are connected to each other. [are] Some of the bigger public safety threats. ”

Authorities are asking anyone with information relating to an investigation in the Springfield area to contact the Springfield Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 413-787-6355 or text the crime via text message (2-7-4-6-6-3-7).

“As always, our focus is on seeking justice, supporting the victims and their families, and keeping our community safe,” the DA’s office said.

The creepy rumors began to spread on Facebook groups called “New England Serial Killers.” For the past two months, human remains have been found in the chillary New Haven, Norwalk, Groton, Connecticut. Foster, Rhode Island. and Framingham, Plymouth and now Springfield, Massachusetts. Some social media users say these discoveries of human remains, particularly women’s bodies, across three adjacent states, could indicate serial killers.

However, Connecticut State Police told Fox News Digital last week that “at this time there is no information to suggest a connection to similar findings, and at this time there is no known threat to the public.”

According to search engine data, the New England serial killer Facebook group, which currently has 66,700 members, has acquired nearly 20,000 new members this month as they searched “New England serial killer” on Google this month for “New England serial killer.”
