“I was a fan of that song – and I didn’t know [he] By the way, maybe I was a Christian artist or I wasn’t confident in calling him,” Jerry Roll said with a laugh.
“My manager would one day sit down and say, ‘Yo-yo, there’s a Christian artist. Are you interested?” ” he said, recalling the conversation about potential collaborations. It was like “probably.” And he was like, “It’s a guy named Brandon Lake.” “Is that a song from Hallelujah, who fought hard?”
“We were saying, ‘We have to do that song.’ In other words, I felt it was God in every way.
The song has broken through multiple Billboard Christian Music Charts.
Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley Deford, previously said the song helped him get closer to God. He is a nominee for four Grammy Award nominations and eight Country Music Association (CMA) awards, winning the new Artist of the Year in 2023.
“When I first heard of it Hallelujah fought hard“I haven’t touched that kind of thing long because I have my faith, but I’m struggling too, and I’m very honest and open about it,” Jelly Roll said in a video posted on both singers’ social media channels earlier this year.
Lake is a five-time Grammy Award winner and a 10-time Dove Award winner.
“I was so bitter and hurt by the church and their doctrines that I made it myself now,” Jerry Roll said. “Because I believe music meets us where we are. When I heard that, I needed that record, but then doubled it and said, “Yes, you have the chance to work on this guy with this record. He doesn’t just want me to hear it and worship it, but I want me to live with it and learn.”
