Aaron Judge has wrenched Shohei Ohtani’s baseball crown away — for now

The incredibly great Shohei Ohtani appeared to have the lock to the title of the best baseball player in the world. Certainly, no one was going to outperform Otani in his prime. Anyway, that’s what we thought.

But at least today, Judge Aaron wears that crown as the best crown in baseball. (And @I don’t!)

Ohatani cleaned up Babe Ruth in his unrealistic two-way match, but he’s unlikely to give up that honor, and certainly didn’t seem to have played baseball for more than a month beyond his 50-50 season. But for now, anyway, the judge is beyond him and everyone else.

Heading into Friday’s matchup with the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium, the judge is at the top of all the statistics you’ve heard (and there are some that you may not have). He is first in batting average (.415), base percentage (.513), slugging rate (.734), OPS (1.247), and war (2.1). He also leads with created runs (36), coordinated batting runs (25), coordinated wins (2.0), and offensive win percentage (.923).
