Texas Mom Booked for Serving Boozy Treat to Fifth Graders

The eastern Texas mother faces a felony injury to a child after allegedly providing a gel o shot of vodkalace to fifth graders at a holiday party in December.

Teresa Isabel Bernal, 33, was arrested and booked last week after nearly four months of investigation into the incident that took place at Jones Elementary School in Tyler on December 20th.

Describing teachers and administrators as “they were involved parents and were present in many functions of the school,” Vernal claimed that it was a mistake and didn’t know that gelatin contained alcohol. She told police she bought snacks from a business at a local home-based business. Her own daughter is a student in her class.

The results of the holiday shot were not a bunch of crazy fifth grade party animals, but school staff said students consumed almost every shot before they noticed that the staff contained alcohol.

“One child threw and another could not stand up after consuming six shots,” the arrest said. Affidavit Retrieved by Ketk News in Laredo. Fifteen students were sent to school nurses and reported headaches and stomach problems. Another student claimed he “dead” after school after the party.

A police officer from the Tyler Independent School District received a call from the principal of Jones Elementary School in December about a spike shot. However, interviews with those involved did not begin until January, when staff and students returned after the holiday break.

Bernal told police he bought Jell-O shots from a local business he found on Facebook. She insisted to police that she had no intention of giving students a treat with alcohol covered in treats.

However, investigators saw the status of the Jell-O shots ordered by Bernal and the affidavit.

It clearly states that Jell-O shots include Smirnoff [a vodka brand]. In my opinion, Bernal couldn’t overlook the fact that Jero Au Shot, which she bought and brought to her daughter’s fifth grade Christmas party, contained drinking.

Bernal was arrested last Monday at the Smith County Jail, causing physical injuries to a child and posted a bond of $75,000 that day.

According to Tyler ISD, Bernal has not returned on campus since the incident.
