President Trump said on Sunday in a post about the true society that he is “recovering Columbus Day.”
“I’m regaining Columbus Day from the ashes. The Democrats have done everything they can to destroy Christopher Columbus, his reputation, and all the Italians who love him,” Trump told his post.
“They tore his statue, ‘wake up’, and even worse, nothing! He added.
In 2021, former President Biden was the first US president to issue a presidential declaration marking Indigenous People’s Day. Indigenous Day has been celebrated in recent years due to the growing number of Americans.
“For generations, federal policies have tried to systematically assimilate native people and eradicate Indigenous culture,” Biden said in his 2021 declaration.
In multiple Columbus Day declarations since his first term, Trump did not mention by name on Indigenous Day.
“Columbus’s resolve and spirit of adventure have inspired generations of Americans. On Columbus Day, we celebrate his incredible achievements as a navigator and celebrate his voyage to the unknown spread of the Atlantic.”
“His expedition formed the first bond between Europe and America, changing the world forever,” he continued. “Today, in that spirit, we continue to seek new perspectives for greater opportunities and further discoveries.
