Greenland Prime Minister Jens Frederick Nielsen said Sunday that comments from US officials on the Arctic Island were disrespectful and that the island could not be purchased.
Nielsen said at a joint press conference at Fredericksen’s Marienborg civil servant in Limby, Denmark, that Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredericksen was standing there, “it would never be a property that anyone could buy.”
The Prime Minister of Greenland met Fredericksen on the second day of his three-day official visit to Denmark. Greenland is a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark.
“We don’t respect the talks from the US,” Nielsen said. “The words used are not respectful, so that’s why we need to be in this situation. We need to stand together.”

Greenland’s political parties recently agreed to form a broad new coalition government amid Trump’s targets on territory.
This is because the island has leaned towards its ultimate independence from Denmark over the years.
Nielsen’s three-day visit is attempting to address future cooperation between the two countries.
“Denmark has a willingness to invest in Greenlandic society and we don’t have it for historical reasons, we have it.

“Of course, there is a willingness to continue investing in Greenland society,” she added.
Nielsen is scheduled to meet Danish Frederick X on Monday and will return to Greenland with Frederick for a royal visit to the island.
Fredericksen and Nielsen were asked if a meeting was planned involving them and Trump.
Trump remains optimistic about the odds to win Greenland: “I think that’s going to happen.”
