Ottawa:
Canada will go to the poll on April 28th. It will fall on Monday, as required by Canadian law. The vote was originally scheduled to take place on October 20th, 2025. But an early election was triggered after the Canadian governor accepted Prime Minister Mark Kearney’s advice to dissolve Parliament.
Why Canada will hold a federal election on Monday
According to the election, the agency of the Vice Party that votes, the election day must fall on Monday, and the campaign or election period must last for at least 37 days, within 51 days.
Canada was revised for federal elections on Monday, allowing voters to spend the weekend before the election, allowing them to prepare and arrange a schedule. Other than this, election officials and volunteers can also set up polling stations over the weekend.
According to the revised Canadian Election Act, general elections take place on the third Monday of October, after the fourth calendar year. Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper had it I said“The fixed election day prevents the government from calling for SNAP elections for short-term political advantage.”
What happens if Monday is a holiday?
If a federal election falls on a public holiday, the election will be moved the day after Tuesday. For example, if Canada is scheduled to receive a national holiday Thanksgiving election, the election will be postponed to the following Tuesday.
Like 2008, Canadian federal elections took place on Tuesday, October 14th, rather than on a regular Monday. The change was made due to the fall of Thanksgiving on Monday, October 13th, and it was a public holiday, so the election was postponed one day to ensure smooth voting.
Several major political parties, including the Liberals, the Conservatives, the New Democrats (NDP), Brock Quebekoa and Greene Party, are challenging the election this year. Preliminary results will be available on election night. The final official results will be confirmed by the election authorities within 2-3 days of election day.
