The US said it deported more than 130 Central Asian migrants without documents to Uzbekistan, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
in Wednesday Press ReleaseThe DHS said the Uzbek government had cooperated with the US in deporting more than 100 Uzbek, Kazakh and Kyrgyz migrants. The department also said the deportation of Uzbekistan migrants was “fully funded” by the government.
“We commend Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his leadership in sending flights to bring 131 illegal foreigners back to their homeland,” Homeland Security Secretary Christi Noem said at his release. “We look forward to continuing to work with Uzbekistan on efforts to strengthen mutual security and support the rule of law.”
In the first months of his second term, President Trump's administration tried to crack down on immigration. Since the start of the new administration, the United States has also deported hundreds of migrants to large prisons in El Salvador.
Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday voted to move forward with the law to support a set of Trump immigration targets, including increasing fees for those looking for US shelters and procuring resources to detain and deport record numbers of immigrants.
A recent CNN poll found 52% of respondents said Trump “goes too far” when he came to deportation, which has risen seven percentage points since February.
