WNBA star says she can ‘absolutely’ win championship this year

Indiana Fever ended the 2022 season with a 5-31 record. 5 wins, 31 losses. In 2023, they drafted Aliya Boston's first overall issue, and the following year it was 13-27. That record led them to draft Caitlin Clark No. 1 in 2024, leading the team to a 20-20 record and their first record. WNBA Playoff appearances in eight seasons. It was also the first time since 2015 that fever has reached the 20-win threshold.

It was a major improvement, but the entire Indiana Fever franchise lesson was also a year. They learned what Clark and Boston need to succeed and started working in the offseason to make them come true.

Heading into the 2025 season, Indiana Fever has a new head coach and a new player to complement his younger core. They added veteran players Dewanna Bonner and Natasha Howard.

On Indiana Fever Media Day, Clark was asked if he thought this year's team could win the championship.

“Absolutely,” Clark said, and when asked what success would be like in 2025, she offered a similar answer: “The Championship.”

Clark also commented on his gratitude to the veteran players who chose to play for Indiana this year. She wants to win for them.

The moves made by Indiana certainly boost the heat from the fringe playoff team to teams like potential home court advantages, but it's still a fight. The WNBA team continues to improve as they continue to level up. The teams that appear to be in the way of Indiana are New York Liberty, Las Vegas Ace and Minnesota Links. All three of these teams are led by Juggernaut talents, A'ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart and Naphesa Collier.

Between Wilson, Stewart and Collier, there are five WNBA MVP Awards, three Defensive Player of the Year Awards, six NCAA National Championships, five WNBA Championships, 12 All-WNBA First Team Nodes, three Euroleague Championships, seven Olympic Gold Medals and five World Cup Gold Medals. These three have been demonstrated to be the winners who support final-level talent in their teams.

There's no doubt that Fever will see another leap in seasonal records this season. Their ceiling becomes clearer as they get better ideas about what this team looks like. But for now, the idea that they have to play against the two teams mentioned above in the playoff series is the biggest challenge Indiana has to overcome on the path to a potential championship, depending on how the rankings fluctuate.
