Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas is reaching out to her fellow Democrats, exploring the potential for a bid for key positions on the House Oversight Committee, as reported by Semafor. Conversations among lawmakers are circulating about her ambitions to fill the spot currently held by a Virginia representative.
According to Politico, Rep. Connolly is expected to step back due to his battle with esophageal cancer, though no formal announcement has been made yet. Meanwhile, Crockett has reportedly told her colleagues that her plans are “made for now.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Crockett for comment, but she did not respond. However, she did communicate with Politico, noting that while there isn’t a vacancy at the moment, she is aware of Connolly’s situation and expressed concerns about current administration issues.
Crockett, a progressive first-term representative, has stirred controversy this year with her comments, as seen in a recent video where she empathized with potential deportation consequences, criticizing the practice as a violation of civil rights.
In her remarks, she highlighted the irrationality of randomly expelling people from the country, questioning how those nations would react if the tables were turned. Her frustration with Republican actions intensified after the deportation of a U.S. citizen’s child alongside a non-citizen parent.
Tricia McLaughlin from the Department of Homeland Security explained that the deportation occurred because the mother wasn’t a citizen and intended to return to Honduras.
Crockett previously joined Rep. Eric Swalwell in condemning the GOP’s decision to permit the deportation of American citizens, emphasizing that such votes were historically misguided. Earlier this year, she also made headlines for labeling Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, as the “Hot Wheel Governor,” later clarifying that her words were misinterpreted. Her outspoken nature continues to generate attention, even involving remarks about Elon Musk and other political figures.
