The Travelers Championship certainly draws in golf fans every June, and it doesn’t seem to need any extra promotion. It’s actually the second PGA Tour event of the year, coming right after Scottsdale’s Waste Management.
Last year was really something, with Scotty Schaeffler winning against Tom Kim in a thrilling playoff. With no tournaments happening in the Tri-state area, fans from various states make their way to TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, all in search of a memorable experience.
But, let’s be honest, a few big names are missing this year. Some of the sport’s notable players—like John Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka—are currently with LIV Golf, which, well, complicates things. But who knows? With ongoing negotiations between LIV and the PGA, there’s always a chance that some of those players could return.
Nathan Grube, the championship director, shared that he’s been in the game for two decades and has built personal relationships with many of these players. He mentioned how he hopes they all find their way back to play at the Travelers Championship when the time is right. It’s pretty clear he wishes them the best while keeping the door open for future participation.
With the Northern Trust out of the picture, fans in New Jersey and New York have lost a local tournament option. Grube and his team saw this as an opportunity, aiming to elevate the Travelers experience and tap into the New England audience. They’ve been proactive, engaging with media and sponsors to enhance the event’s profile.
Schaeffler spoke about the warmth and care players, their families, and caddies receive during the week at this tournament, noting that it’s often regarded as a favorite among caddies on tour. Overall, it promises to be a rewarding week for everyone involved.
