John Elway recruits attorney following fatal golf cart accident with agent

John Elway, the Denver Broncos legend, has engaged a lawyer from Denver following a tragic golf cart accident in California. The incident involved his agent and close friend, Jeffrey Sperbeck, who fell from the back of a golf cart at the Madison Club in La Quinta on Saturday night. Just two days later, on Monday, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it was looking into the matter, stating they had received relevant information.

A Cal Fire spokesperson indicated that they responded to the scene at around 6:50 PM, and Sperbeck was subsequently transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. Unfortunately, he sustained serious injuries and passed away on Wednesday. Notably, Elway has not faced any criminal charges related to the incident.

According to reports, Elway was behind the wheel of the golf cart when Sperbeck fell, following a party post a stagecoach event. Interestingly, he was the first to call 911. Public records show that Elway’s residence is just a short ten-minute walk from the Madison Club.

Fox News Digital confirmed that Elway is now being represented by attorney Harvey Steinberg, who has a history of representing prominent athletes and sports figures, including some executives from the Broncos. Steinberg also has experience dealing with various sports-related legal matters.

In response to the incident, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office stated that they had not been called to the scene at the time since it was considered primarily a medical situation. They have mentioned that they will take necessary actions depending on the investigation’s outcome.

When questioned about the delay in Fox News Digital’s reporting of the affair, the Sheriff’s Office did not provide any comments. On Wednesday, after Sperbeck’s death, Elway released a heartfelt statement expressing his devastation over losing his best friend, business partner, and agent. He articulated how hard it had been to process such a sudden loss.

Sperbeck’s family has also shared their grief, emphasizing how deeply he will be missed by everyone who knew him. They described him as a wonderful person—husband, father, brother—and a cherished friend, mourning together with Elway and numerous others affected by this tragedy.
