Seven individuals tragically lost their lives in a serious accident involving a passenger van near Yellowstone National Park, according to U.S. police reports released on Friday.
Authorities investigating the incident noted that a pickup truck in eastern Idaho collided with a van carrying 14 passengers late Thursday night. The Idaho State Police stated, “Tradically, six individuals, including the van and pickup drivers, died as a result of a crash.”
Images from local news outlets depicted a severely damaged red truck alongside a van that was engulfed in flames. Emergency services were called to transport the injured to a hospital due to the severity of their conditions.
Currently, there is no information regarding the identities or nationalities of those involved in the accident. Local residents mentioned to the media that the road tends to be busy, as it serves as a route to one of Yellowstone’s entrances.
Each year, millions of visitors, both from the U.S. and abroad, flock to Yellowstone, the first national park in the United States, which spans parts of Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. The park is renowned for its geothermal features, including hot springs, muddy steam vents, and approximately half of the world’s active geysers, including the famed Old Faithful.
