A group of MS-13 gang members, who are reportedly in the country illegally, allegedly attacked three corrections officers at a Virginia prison on Friday morning.
According to the Virginia Department of Corrections, around 9:45 AM, six inmates at Warrensridge State Jail in Big Stone Gap launched the attack. Two of the officers were hospitalized but are in stable condition, while the others were treated at a local facility.
Five of the inmates involved are linked to the notorious Salvadoran gang and have been convicted of serious crimes like murder and rape. The sixth inmate—serving a second murder sentence—is an American citizen affiliated with the Suno 13 gang.
Chad Dotson, the director of Vadoc, stated that the five individuals involved really shouldn’t have even been in the country in the first place.
He emphasized the daily risks faced by officers who work to protect over 8.8 million people nationwide, calling their response to this incident heroic.
An investigation into the situation is currently underway.
