John Elway’s agent’s death seems to be a terrible accident.

The recent passing of veteran sports agent Jeff Sperbeck has been classified as a “terrifying accident,” with no indications of foul play, according to authorities.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco stated on Friday that investigators found no evidence of criminal behavior surrounding the incident, which occurred when a golf cart, driven by football Hall of Famer John Elway, overturned. This information was reported by the Denver Post.

“It seems to be a horrific accident,” Bianco mentioned to the Denver Post. “Unfortunately, one of those involved was a well-known celebrity, and that perhaps complicates things more than it should.”

Sperbeck, who represented Elway, died following a fall last Saturday at Madison Club, a private country club in California.

Immediately after the accident, Elway’s group contacted emergency services.

Bianco explained that their department became involved only after extensive media coverage confirmed Elway was driving the cart at the time.

Upon arrival, first responders found no signs that Elway had been under the influence.

The sheriff’s department also inspected the golf cart and ruled out any mechanical failures.

Bianco added that it’s standard for medical personnel to follow up if something seems amiss after an accident, but that wasn’t the case here.

He indicated that the investigation should wrap up fairly soon, as they’re reviewing surveillance footage and witness accounts.

“We’re doing our best to ensure this remains classified as just an accident,” Bianco noted.

A witness described the scene as “terrifying.” Ali Simon remarked, “It was so frightening. Something like this is just unimaginable. His wife was in a state of panic.”

In his three decades as an NFL agent, Sperbeck represented over 100 players.

He and Elway also collaborated on their wine brand, 7cellars.

Elway expressed his grief on Wednesday, saying he felt “devastated and heartbroken” about Sperbeck’s death.

“Words can’t fully capture the sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who meant so much to me,” he said in a statement.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Jeff’s wife, Kori, and his children, Carly, Sam, and Jackson, as well as to all who loved him. Jeff was incredibly significant in my life and the lives of many others due to his loyalty, wisdom, and friendship.”
