Former Yankee Joey Gallo shares video of his first bullpen session

Former MLB player Joey Gallo is attempting to reinvent his career by taking up pitching.

The ex-Yankees outfielder has decided to shift gears at 31, as he shared a video of his first bullpen session on Friday. It highlighted his dedication to mastering this new role and really embracing the change.

“The first bullpen is done,” he remarked in the video caption.

Gallo’s pivot to pitching comes after he was released in March, following a tough spring training where he managed just two hits in 20 at-bats—so a request for change seemed necessary.

Later, he announced his intent to pursue pitching professionally, which surprised many.

“It was a fascinating outfield,” he observed, adding, “Just to clarify, I will pitch.”

And he certainly seemed determined.

Gallo, a two-time Gold Glove winner in 2020 and 2021, was also an All-Star in 2019 and again in 2021. He began his career with the Rangers in 2015 before being traded to the Yankees in 2021, where he struggled for two seasons before moving to the Dodgers.

His journey then took him to the Twins and ultimately the White Sox this winter.

With a career batting average of .194, Gallo is known for his powerful hits, hitting over 40 home runs across the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

What lies ahead for Gallo’s new pitching venture remains uncertain, but his desire to keep playing baseball is quite evident.
