‘Remarkable Recruiting Figures’: DOD Summarizes Initial 100 Days with Hegseth and Partnership with DOGE

Progress at the Department of Defense

The Department of Defense (DOD) is highlighting its achievements during the first 100 days under Executive Director Pete Hegseth. In partnership with Government Efficiency (DOGE), they’ve made strides in recruitment, border security, and cost-cutting reforms.

“Tuesday marked President Trump’s 100th day in office,” remarked Sean Parnell, assistant to the Secretary of Defense and Senior Advisor, in a weekly SITREP video that showcased departmental activities.

Military Retention and Recruitment

By February, all branches of the military—Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Space Force—had exceeded their recruitment targets compared to the previous year, according to Parnell.

“Thanks to President Trump and Secretary Hegseth’s leadership, the U.S. military has experienced historic recruitment numbers across all sectors,” he noted.

“It’s been decades since I’ve seen recruitment like this across the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force,” he added.

Border Enforcement, Overseas Operations, and COVID-19 Vaccines

Pentagon officials also emphasized recent border enforcement efforts, mentioning the deployment of 11,900 troops to secure the southwest border. They pointed out that border crossings have decreased by 99.99% compared to the first 100 days of former President Biden.

Additionally, the U.S. military is intensifying its operations overseas against Iran-backed Houthi extremists.

“[Centcom] has struck over 1,000 targets, effectively reducing the capabilities of Houthi fighters and leaders. The mission has shown promising results,” stated Parnell.

Moreover, the DOD has started to overturn one of the Biden administration’s more contentious policies related to laying off service members who declined the COVID-19 vaccine.

DOGE Reduces Costs

Pentagon officials reported that their collaboration with DOGE has resulted in significant fiscal reforms.

“We’ve identified approximately $6 billion in potential savings for reinvestment within the DOD,” Parnell explained.

These savings are part of substantial spending cuts confirmed in April, with Hegseth signing an order that eliminates $5.1 billion in inefficient DOD programs, including various consulting and IT services.
