Four Mexican nationals residing unlawfully in the United States face charges related to an international human smuggling conspiracy. This operation is reported to have facilitated the illegal entry of hundreds of immigrants weekly across the Canadian border.
Those charged include Edgar Sanchez Solis, 23, Ignacio Diaz Perez, 35, Samuel Diaz Perez, 26, and Salvador Diaz Diaz, 32. A news release from the Judicial Division outlines these allegations, asserting that they conspired to bring aliens into the U.S. unlawfully.
According to the release, all four men were arrested in various locations within the U.S. Notably, Ignacio Diaz Perez and Salvador Diaz Diaz had been previously deported.
Legal documents reveal that these individuals were part of a smuggling organization that had been active across Mexico, Canada, and the United States for around two years. They allegedly conspired to transport hundreds of people weekly from Mexico, Central, and South America to upstate New York, and then onward into the United States in exchange for payment.
Authorities claim that these individuals openly defy U.S. laws by smuggling large numbers of foreigners for significant sums. Erin Keegan, a special agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Buffalo, emphasized the blatant nature of their actions.
The smuggling group reportedly led law enforcement on high-speed chases along the northern U.S. border. In one incident from April 2023, a smuggler allegedly fled a border patrol sector after setting up border monitoring equipment. When apprehended, authorities found seven illegal adults and three children being transported.
In another instance in August 2023, a vehicle carrying illegal immigrants attempted to evade border guards, driving erratically and running red lights before crashing. The driver and six passengers fled the scene but were eventually caught.
Matthew R. Galeotti, a criminal director at the Department of Justice, remarked that the defendants entered the U.S. unlawfully and exacerbated the situation by attempting to smuggle individuals from various countries through the Canadian border. He also noted that the defendants instructed some migrants to create video testimonials promoting the smuggling services, putting lives, including innocent Americans, at considerable risk during high-speed escapes from law enforcement.
This case is part of a broader initiative, Take Back America, which mobilizes the Department of Justice’s resources to confront illegal immigration, combat cartels, and protect communities from violent crime.
