President Donald Trump is being compared to “a jealous spouse who harms their partner,” suggesting he might “threaten destruction” if he doesn’t achieve his goals for a third term.
This alarming commentary was shared alongside Democratic representative Eric Swalwell on Jim Acosta’s podcast.
“I think it’s a plausible notion that Donald Trump behaves like someone who pushes others away,” stated Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn.
He cautioned, “Trump’s self-centered approach could have global implications… This kind of destruction seems rooted in a struggle for power.”
Acosta probed whether Penn believes that Trump represents a significant danger in trying to hold onto power after his second term. “I think he might act destructively on a grand scale before he grows any older,” Penn answered.
Swalwell, a longtime opponent of Trump, expressed concern over the potential harm Trump could inflict.
“If you don’t think there’s anyone capable of keeping him in check,” Swalwell remarked, “you might witness him escalate his actions… what he might do to safeguard his position.”
Penn has consistently criticized Trump and has raised questions about his intentions.
The Oscar-winning star is known for roles in films like Mystic River and Milk. As noted by various outlets, the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election prompted him to transition into writing.
“Before the 2016 election, when I was struggling to focus, I felt as if I might lose myself,” he shared in a 2019 discussion with actor Nick Offerman.
“So I dreaded it, amplified my feelings, and exaggerated my language to maintain some humor during such a chaotic time in our nation’s history.”
In a media appearance in 2018, Penn stated that President Trump poses a risk to “the enemies of Americans, regardless of their political affiliation, and all newly born children. He represents a threat to humanity.”
