NFL writer Peter King has a way with words, and he didn’t hold back when discussing Bill Belichick following a recent controversial interview with CBS.
During an interview with Tony Docpile, King was prompted to comment on a video that surfaced showing Belichick’s girlfriend, 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, intervening while Belichick was responding to questions.
King seemed quite emphatic about the situation.
“This is a guy who has always commanded respect in any room, and now he’s got a young girlfriend trying to manage a situation that really doesn’t involve her,” King remarked. “He needs to handle this on his own. It’s frankly embarrassing for someone of his caliber.”
Since this interview clip has been made public, both Belichick and Hudson have exchanged criticisms regarding the fallout.
Belichick contended that the focus of the interview was supposed to be his book, accusing Docpile of overstepping by asking personal questions about his relationship with Hudson. CBS, however, stated that Belichick had agreed to the interview without any conditions.
King also pointed out Belichick’s attire, specifically his tendency to appear in sweatshirts with holes.
“To promote the book, you’d see Bill Belichick on TV, often in a sweatshirt with holes,” King noted. “Look at the video—he’s wearing a navy sweatshirt with a hole in it. And yet, why does TMZ catch him leaving a luxury hotel in a perfectly tailored suit?”
“Anyone watching this, well, if I haven’t bought his book, why would I? It doesn’t exactly make me want to support him.”
It’s worth mentioning that King and Belichick have had a complicated history.
The pair had a decent rapport back in the late 1980s while King was at Newsday covering the Giants, but their relationship soured when King criticized Belichick during the 2007 Spygate incident.
In a recent piece for The Athletic, King shared that the two haven’t spoken in 17 years.
“That’s just part of the job sometimes,” King commented. “Belichick is one of the greatest coaches ever—maybe not on par with Paul Brown, but certainly among the elite. Still, what he did in 2007 was unacceptable.”
