The surprise surrounding Shedeur Sanders’ unexpected draft day slide has transitioned into a discussion of the reasons behind his fall from grace.
The latest insights come from CBS’s Kyle Tucker, who recalls Sanders missing a meeting ahead of a significant game against rival Colorado. It’s common for quarterbacks to engage with the media before important matches, and Sanders indicated he had to postpone due to needing treatment. However, he ultimately did not attend the rescheduled session.
“We didn’t really get an explanation, but we didn’t get to talk to Shedeur at the production meeting. For quarterbacks, especially notable ones, that’s quite unusual,” Tucker mentioned during an appearance on the Above Dampertrick show. “I left the hotel and noticed a pickup truck parked out front. Shedeur was sitting behind it.”
“It made me think. People asked me, even in the NFL, what I thought of Shedeur. I replied, ‘I didn’t get a chance to talk to him.’ Perhaps he’s the most amazing kid ever, or maybe he’s a problem. There’s just no way to know.”
“I began to wonder how many other unconventional stories there are about Shedeur. It seemed like every interview and meeting he attended was a significant event.”
In discussions with NFL teams before the draft, it became clear that Sanders’ past behaviors had a considerable influence on his draft stock, dropping him from initial top-five projections to #144. According to Tucker, Sanders had a strong dislike for meetings during his college years.
All of this undoubtedly affected his draft prospects, potentially costing him millions.
