President Trump criticized reporters from the Wall Street Journal on Sunday while aboard Air Force One, labeling the publication as “rotten” and detrimental to the nation.
Trump addressed a reporter directly, asking, “Who are you with?” in response to a shouted question. He continued, “You boy, your people treat us very badly.”
The president emphasized, “You really went to a rotten newspaper. Are you listening to me? What I said…it’s a rotten newspaper.”
He stated he wouldn’t engage with journalists from the Journal, claiming, “because they’re going to waste my time.”
“The Wall Street Journal is China-oriented,” he remarked, adding, “And they’re really bad for this country.”
Trump has taken issue with the Journal for months, particularly regarding their editorial stance, which he feels has been critical of him and his administration’s trade policies.
For instance, last month, the Journal’s editorial board suggested, “It appears that China has won this round by calling Trump’s bluff.”
He also referred to them as “globalists,” expressing frustration with Rupert Murdoch, the journal’s billionaire owner, claiming he is obstructing Trump’s objectives.
In recent weeks, Trump’s administration has been pushing back against mainstream media narratives that diverge from more conservative and “new media” perspectives, part of a wider strategy to shape public perception.
