Michigan has announced a two-game suspension for Sherone Moore in the 2025 season as part of voluntary penalties stemming from the Connor Stallions sign-stealing scandal, according to various reports.
Moore, who served as the offensive coordinator during the 2023 incident, is reported to have deleted 52 text messages. The NCAA previously cited Michigan for 11 violations related to the scandal last August, and further punishment for Moore could follow.
Moore, 39, will coach the team’s season opener against New Mexico from home and will also miss a game against Oklahoma, his former team.
His suspension will cover a home game against Central Michigan and a road game against Nebraska, as noted by multiple sources.
Stallions, a former analyst for Michigan, faced accusations of sending individuals to record sideline signals from upcoming opponents. Following the scandal, Stallions left the program and transitioned to coaching at the high school level in Michigan.
In 2023, Jim Harbaugh received a three-game suspension due to the scandal, yet Michigan managed to secure victories in those games and clinched the national championship.
Harbaugh later moved on to the NFL, leaving Moore to step into the head coach role.
In his first season as head coach, Moore’s team struggled a bit, finishing the 2024 regular season with a 7-5 record and a 5-4 mark in the Big Ten, although they did defeat rival Ohio State in their final regular-season game.
The Buckeyes ultimately claimed the national title, while Michigan captured their eighth win in the Lerie Quest Bowl against Alabama.
