Jeffries Criticizes Trump Amid Newark Airport Delays

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries recently spoke out against former President Donald Trump, particularly in light of the ongoing issues at Newark Liberty International Airport, claiming that Trump has significantly harmed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

During a press conference on Monday, Jeffries raised concerns about the recent travel disruptions. He emphasized that addressing these delays is crucial for Americans who rely on efficient travel. “It’s a major issue for everyone,” he remarked, before shifting focus to Trump and his administration.

“The Trump administration has, in various ways, decimated the FAA since its onset. It’s almost as if they are undermining the federal government itself,” he asserted.

In a separate announcement, Trump stated that all diplomatic production films would now face 100% tariffs, expressing a desire for films to be made in America.

Jeffries continued, saying that the FAA has been significantly weakened, though he acknowledged that the specific issues at Newark may not be directly linked to Trump’s actions at this moment. “Still, I hope that the Transport and Infrastructure Committee will look into this situation for clearer answers and necessary changes,” he added.

A few days prior to Jeffries’ comments, Newark Airport had experienced substantial delays. Over 500 flights were disrupted, and hundreds were canceled, creating a chaotic atmosphere that lingered through the weekend. Reports indicated that by Monday afternoon, 172 flights were delayed and another 76 were canceled.

Transport Secretary Sean Duffy also weighed in, criticizing the outdated technology contributing to the delays. “The systems we’re working with are simply too old, which leads to these outages and issues we’re witnessing,” he explained.
