After clinching their first franchise title, the Liberty faced off against the Heroes Canyon in October, and on Monday, they hit the Met Gala red carpet.
Monarchs Jonquel Jones, Sabrina Ionescu, and Breanna Stewart walked alongside co-owner Clara U Tsai to celebrate “Super Fine: Tailing Black Style” on the Upper East Side.
Dressed in coordinated black and white outfits designed by Sergio Hudson and styled by Courtney Maze, the group was ready for their appearance at the Surrey Hotel.
Jones, Ionescu, and Stewart opted for power suits, a signature style from Hudson, while Tsai wore a strapless black mermaid gown adorned with Liberty-colored jewelry, complemented by footwear from Tyler Eliskrachche and St. Laurent.
Final MVP Jones sported a crocodile-printed leather jacket paired with black crepe bootcut pants, accentuated by accessories like a Hublot watch and Magnanni shoes.
Ionescu’s ensemble featured a white crop top, a long black skirt, and a black tail coat tuxedo jacket lined in white, complete with jewels from Steven Russell, a Sondra Roberts bag, and Jimmy Choo shoes.
Stewart, who added a third WNBA Championship to her achievements last fall, wore a custom ivory tuxedo matched with an AP watch and St. Laurent boots, along with various elegant accessories.
All three athletes looked every bit the champions as they prepared to defend their title.
“Basketball has taught me to be comfortable in my skin,” Stewart shared. “Fashion tells that story in another language—reflecting legacy and existence. Wearing Sergio Hudson tonight, we celebrate craft and culture while acknowledging deeper histories—it’s something we embody on the court as well.”
Jones expressed, “It’s an honor to represent our team, women’s basketball, and the city we’ve made history in. I’m proud to wear Sergio Hudson—a visionary Black designer—whose unique look resonates with my style. It shows that female athletes can shine in cultural spaces.”
Hudson has previously dressed notable figures like Michelle Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2021 inauguration.
The Liberty will kick off their preseason festivities at Barclays Center against the Sun on May 9, with the regular season set to begin on Saturday, May 17, hosting the Ace of Lost Freedom at the 2023 WNBA Finals.
