Harris unexpectedly shows up after the election for her first time at the Met Gala.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris made her debut at this year’s Met Gala alongside Doug Emov, as reported by Vogue on Monday.

Harris wore a custom gown from the off-white brand, which featured a striking floor-length design split between black and white on her right shoulder.

This selection is particularly significant given this year’s Met Gala theme, which is centered around the contributions of Black designers, under the title “Tailored for You.” It’s the first time the gala has specifically honored Black design talent.

According to Vogue, the theme highlights “the emergence, importance, and proliferation of Black dandies,” focusing on the influence of tailored clothing in shaping Black identity.

“The arts have always significantly influenced not just culture but also policy and politics,” Harris remarked to Vogue. “Artistic expression can capture the mood and language of those without words, whether it’s through dance, music, visual arts, or fashion. Art has the power to guide conversations about our current position and our future direction.”

Ibrahim Kamara, the creative director for off-white, shared that the essence of dandyism is rooted in confidence and strength. He stated that “no one embodies these qualities more than Kamala D. Harris, who has triumphed over challenges and remains a beacon for many.”

The official Democratic account expressed enthusiasm about Harris’s appearance at the gala, sharing the same image and acknowledging her impact.
