Rep. Crockett questioned on if she’s ‘the future’ of the Democratic Party.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett on Future of Democratic Party

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, emphasized the need for party members who are “unafraid” to stand up to President Donald Trump when discussing her role as a potential leader of the party.

During her appearance on CNN’s “Jake Tapper’s Lead,” Crockett responded to recent comments made by Trump about her, which he shared in an interview on “Meet the Press.” In his remarks, Trump appeared to question Crockett’s intelligence, stating, “They have a new person. [Texas Rep. Jasmine] Crockett. I saw her talking the other day. She is definitely a person with a low IQ.” He added, “You have to be a joke” if she is considered the future of the party.

Tapper then posed a question hinting at Trump’s belief that he himself is the party’s future. Crockett replied, “I don’t know that I’m a Democrat future, but at this very moment, we know that we need people who are willing to move this administration forward for the benefit of the whole country.”

While she exuded confidence in discussing her potential leadership role, Crockett also mentioned her interest in securing a position on the House Oversight Committee. “We want to make sure they are shining light on all the darkness they are bringing to our country now,” she stated.

In response to Trump’s prior comments, Texas lawmakers had taken to social media, with Crockett writing, “You certainly have a lot of names in your mouth, so that you are in charge of the whole country. Every time you say my name, you remind the world that you are afraid of clever and bold black women who will tell the truth and make you take responsibility.”

Crockett has gained recognition within the Democratic Party as a possible leader, especially after her vocal critiques of Trump and his supporters.
