Phil Mickelson Comically Admits to Hot Take That Didn’t Age Well

Phil Mickelson’s Hot Take on Scottie Scheffler

Phil Mickelson really knows how to stir the pot—it’s part of his charm! Recently, he made a bold claim about Scottie Scheffler, who is currently ranked at the top of the golfing world. Mickelson suggested that Scheffler wouldn’t claim victory before the upcoming Ryder Cup.

In March, Mickelson took to social media to voice his opinion on Joaquin Niemann, a Chilean golfer. Niemann had just secured a second-place finish in a LIV Golf event and claimed he could be the world’s number one. Trevor Immelman, a former Masters champ, called Mickelson’s commentary a hot take, but that didn’t stop him from making another provocative statement. In Mickelson’s view, despite Scheffler’s top spot, he wouldn’t win any tournaments leading up to the Ryder Cup.

This is a hot take. Will Scotty win in 2025 before the Ryder Cup? I don’t think so.

Fast forward three weeks, and Mickelson watched as Scheffler completely dominated the CJ Cup at Byron Nelson, winning by an impressive eight-shot margin.

After this victory, Immelman humorously referenced Mickelson’s earlier comments about Scheffler. Remarkably, Mickelson took it all in stride, fully acknowledging his earlier words, which had perhaps aged rather poorly.

So I might be resting on one. Congratulations to Scotty on his amazing performance.
