Sanders tells Democrats that opposing Trump is insufficient.

Sanders Critiques Democratic Strategy Against Trump

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) expressed in a recent interview that mere opposition to President Trump is insufficient, indicating that Democrats have not effectively presented a viable alternative to the American public over the past few years.

“I think Americans are looking for more than just resistance to Trump; they want an agenda that addresses the needs of the working class—something Democrats haven’t offered recently,” he shared after a rally on Friday.

Sanders mentioned, “It’s easy to criticize Trump as a bad guy. Most people see that. But what’s the alternative? Explain why Trump connects with workers earning $14 an hour or those struggling to afford healthcare. What do you have to say?”

Since March, Sanders has embarked on his “Battle Oligarchy” tour, aiming to inspire more independent candidates to enter the political arena.

“This tour aims to unite people and engage them in politics, advocating for running as independents outside the Democratic framework,” he noted in a March interview.

He added, “There is strong grassroots leadership in this country that we need to harness. If we do, we can overcome Trumpism and alter the political landscape in America.”

Some Democrats are looking to a tour featuring lawmakers, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), as examples of the party standing up against the Trump administration with an optimistic vision for the future.

“For a Democrat to find hope, they need to open their doors to working-class individuals and allow grassroots leadership into the party,” Sanders advised. “If that doesn’t happen, I believe many will opt to run as independents across the nation.”
