New book reveals Bill Belichick’s views on Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes.

Bill Belichick Reflects on Career and New Chapter

Bill Belichick, known for his impressive six Super Bowl victories with the New England Patriots, is entering a new phase in his career. After nearly 25 years with the Patriots, he and the team have mutually decided to part ways following the 2023 season. Interestingly, during the 2024 hiring cycle, all NFL teams chose to overlook six championship coaches, including Belichick. This year, he’s signed on as the head coach for the North Carolina football program.

Even before the start of his tenure at Chapel Hill, Belichick has been reflecting on his long coaching journey in a new book titled “The Art of Winning.” However, it’s a comparison between quarterbacks Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes that’s generating quite a buzz, perhaps controversially so.

Brady, with his seven Super Bowl wins, is often hailed as one of, if not the greatest quarterback of all time. After retiring “for good” post the 2022 season, I mean, it’s hard to imagine anyone else surpassing him. Mahomes, on the other hand, has already reached three Super Bowls in his career, clinching two of them and is frequently called the best active quarterback.

Belichick noted that both players are exceptional. He shared a bit of humor, mentioning, “I’ve never gotten into this debate with my buddy Andy Reid, the Chiefs coach, but I can picture him writing his own book to declare his quarterback the greatest.” He adds, with a hint of irony, “What do you know? Both Brady and Mahomes are really good. Controversial, right?”

Delving deeper, Belichick emphasized his perspective on each quarterback’s ability to navigate the pressures of success. He recalled Mahomes’ impressive demeanor during a post-game press conference, likening it to an ideal example of leadership.

Belichick expressed his appreciation for such high-caliber leadership, saying, “It’s like winning by a score of 28-10 and him saying it should have been 45!” He complimented Brady for never shying away from the tough challenges that come with the sport and shared his own experiences of coaching him. “Tom was incredibly prepared; coaching him was both challenging and rewarding,” he said. “He’s mentally tough, physically resilient, and hands down the most dependable player I’ve had the pleasure to coach.”

In a different vein, Belichick’s personal life has also caught some attention lately. His relationship with former cheerleader Jordon Hudson has come under scrutiny since her appearance on “CBS News Sunday Morning” during a promotional tour for his book. In the acknowledgments of the book, he affectionately refers to Hudson as his “Creative Muse.”
