India Confirms Airstrikes on 9 Locations in Pakistan, Pointing to ‘Terrorist Infrastructure’

India has initiated significant military operations targeting Pakistan and the areas in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, which includes regions traditionally viewed as semi-autonomous. Indian authorities stated the objective is to degrade the “terrorist infrastructure” in these territories.

Conflict over Azad Jammu and Kashmir, often referred to as Pakistan-Kashmir, has been ongoing between India and Pakistan since 1947.

Residents reported hearing a large explosion in various nearby locations.

An Indian government statement mentioned, “Not long ago, troops commenced ‘Operation Sindoah,’ which aimed to dismantle terrorist facilities in Jammu and Kashmir, occupied by Pakistan, as there were imminent plans for terrorist attacks against India.” They added that their operations are “focused and measured,” assuring that military sites in Pakistan are not the targets. The statement emphasized India’s restrained approach in choosing and executing operations.

A spokesperson for the Pakistani military conveyed to a local media outlet that they anticipated missile strikes from India at three sites and were prepared to respond.

The situation has escalated following assaults in April on Hindu tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Last month, a gunman killed 26 tourists in Pahargam, leading many to call it the “most deadly attack” on civilians in India in recent years. Pakistan denied involvement in the assault.

Both nations possess nuclear capabilities, adding to the gravity of the situation.

This is a developing story. Updates will follow.
