Senator Discusses Deportation Process
On Tuesday, Senator James Lankford (R-OK) addressed deportations during an appearance on CNN’s “Arena,” noting that someone was being deported for being in the U.S. illegally.
Host Casey Hunt brought up a recent extensive interview between President Trump and Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press.” She highlighted a question regarding Trump’s support for constitutional processes in deportations, to which his response was ambiguous.
Lankford commented, saying, “I stand by my viewpoint. His response indicates he trusts his legal team to handle matters correctly.” He pointed out that many perceive the legitimate processes of American citizenship—such as the right to a fair trial—differently compared to how they’re applied in immigration cases. He noted, “Immigration judges operate under dissimilar procedures from typical federal or state judges.”
Furthermore, Lankford asserted, “While the process is unique, it should still allow individuals a chance to discuss their situation prior to being removed from the country.”
