India initiated Operation Sindoah on Wednesday, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as a response to the recent Pahargam attack. In light of this action, China has voiced its concerns and urged both nations to exercise restraint amid rising tensions between these nuclear-capable neighbors.
As a close ally of Pakistan, China shares borders with both India and Pakistan. Beijing expressed its “remorse” regarding India’s military action, highlighting its worry about the ongoing developments.
“India and Pakistan are neighboring countries that can’t separate, and they are also neighbors to China. We oppose all forms of terrorism,” a foreign ministry spokesperson stated.
“We urge both India and Pakistan to prioritize peace and stability, avoiding actions that are aggressive and that could further complicate the situation,” the spokesperson added.
India’s actions against Pakistan
On Wednesday, heavy artillery exchanges occurred along the border as India carried out “precision strikes at terrorist camps” at multiple sites in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Punjab. This military action followed the tragic killing of 26 civilians in Pahargam, Jammu and Kashmir, just two weeks earlier.
Islamabad reported that the Indian strikes resulted in at least eight fatalities, while India claimed that ten civilians died due to Pakistani artillery fire along the Line of Control.
Post-operation, the Indian military asserted that “justice has been served,” emphasizing that their actions were “precise, measured, and non-active.”
“Indian forces did not target Pakistan’s military installations and have shown considerable restraint in choosing and executing targets,” an official statement indicated.
Reports suggest that the Indian military employed stand-off weapons, drones, and precision munitions during the strikes. Significant targets included facilities associated with Hizbul Mujahideen, Rashkar Etaiba’s base in Markaz Al Hadith, and the camp at Shawai Nara in Muzaffarabad, along with the Markaz Abbas facility connected to Jaish e Mohammad in Kotori.
