Donovan Mitchell responds to Cavs fans calling Tyrese Haliburton ‘overrated’

Cavaliers Face Disappointment as Halliburton Shines in Game 2

Sometimes, it’s best not to taunt the bear.

Just before halftime in Game 2 against the Pacers, the Cavaliers took a 10-point lead, prompting the enthusiastic fans to chant “overrated” at Indiana guard Tyrese Halliburton.

However, the star players on the home side weren’t having it.

Donovan Mitchell waved to the crowd, urging them to remain supportive and quiet while Halliburton prepared for a free throw, as Indiana led 59-49.

Halliburton had the last laugh, sinking a game-winning three-pointer with just one second left, ensuring a stunning comeback for the Pacers.

This isn’t the first time Halliburton has faced “overrated” chants, but it carries more weight since he was named the NBA’s most overrated player by fellow players in an anonymous end-of-season poll.

“That was unexpected,” Halliburton remarked to reporters after the Pacers’ surprising 120-119 win, which put them up 2-0 in the series. “I didn’t know we had beef… It seemed to come out of nowhere. I think that label follows me whenever we play on the road.”

After hitting the winning shot, Halliburton proved the critics wrong, even after the poll had labeled him inaccurately following a previous successful series against the Bucks.

With 48 seconds left, the Pacers made a remarkable comeback from a 119-112 deficit, scoring the final four points of the game.

After missing a free throw with 12.1 seconds remaining, Halliburton managed to rebound his own shot. He then dribbled back before executing a 24-foot step-back three-pointer, clinching the victory.

Despite the Cavaliers’ collapse, Mitchell, who scored 48 points in the game, faced no backlash for the situation.

In a tense moment, he received an inbound pass with 45.2 seconds left, committed an offensive foul, and contributed to the Cavaliers’ downfall.

As history suggests, teams rarely recover from a 3-0 series deficit. Now, the Cavaliers find themselves in a crucial position as they head to Indianapolis for Game 3.
