Phoenix – Kodai Senga’s Performance
Kodai Senga struggled early in Wednesday’s game, walking five batters within the first three innings. However, with some solid defensive plays and adjustments, he managed to find his rhythm, and the Diamondbacks’ runners were kept at bay.
Ultimately, Senga delivered a strong performance, pitching six shutout innings as the Mets won 7-1 in the series finale at Chase Field, wrapping up a 3-3 road trip.
Juan Soto was a standout, contributing significantly with two home runs and three RBIs. This marked his second multi-homer game of the season, both occurring against this opponent.
Senga exited after throwing 89 pitches, lowering his ERA to 1.16 while allowing just two hits throughout his outing. This was his fourth start of the season, and he helped ease the bullpen’s workload by completing six innings for the second game in a row.
Just a day earlier, David Peterson had also pitched six innings, despite giving up four runs. Max Kranick pitched one inning more and was later relieved by Huascar Brazobán, who secured the final two outs in the eighth. Ryne Stanek closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.
In the early stages, Senga benefited from defensive support that maintained a scoreless tie. Alec Thomas hit a double to left center in the second inning, and Francisco Lindor made a crucial relay throw to get Eugenio Suarez out at home plate.
After issuing two walks at the start of the third inning, Senga managed to escape danger when Pavin Smith grounded into a double play.
Earlier, Senga also received some help when Corbin Carroll attempted to steal two bases in the first inning but was thrown out.
Soto got the scoring started with a home run during the sixth inning. An RBI single from Luisangel Acuña later pushed the Mets’ lead to 2-0, highlighted by Torrens’ double that fueled the rally.
Acuña added his ninth stolen base of the season, while Jeff McNeill’s triple extended the lead to 3-0. Soto then hit another home run, marking his eighth of the season.
The two home runs came in just a week for Soto against Arizona, as he also launched two at Citi Field in the last series.
In the eighth inning, Carroll hit a leadoff homer off Kranick, narrowing the score to 4-1. Kranick allowed two more hits in that inning before Brazobán came in to record the last two outs, striking out Suarez in a tense moment.
In the ninth, Lindor hit a two-run double to provide the Mets with a comfortable cushion. After both Jose Azocar and Taylor walked, Lindor’s second double of the afternoon set the stage for a sacrifice fly from Soto, finalizing the score at 7-1.
