Trump Announces New Trade Agreement with the UK
On Thursday, President Donald Trump revealed a new trade agreement with the United Kingdom, referring to it as “American Incredible Day.” In a statement to reporters at the White House, he described this deal as the first of several negotiations his administration has been pursuing over the past month.
“This agreement reaffirms that mutual relations and fairness are key principles of international trade,” Trump remarked. He emphasized that it would enhance market access for U.S. exports, especially in agriculture, significantly increasing availability of American beef, ethanol, and various products from dedicated farmers.
“We are also expediting customs processes for American goods, ensuring our exports receive quick approvals,” he added, mentioning that “final details will be finalized in the coming weeks.”
Details on the Trade Agreement
In a message via the Truth Society, Trump stated, “Today marks an incredible milestone for America as we establish our first fair and open trade agreements, noting that previous leaders were indifferent.” He emphasized the significance of this agreement with Britain, asserting that it stands as the first historic trade pact since their liberation.
According to Trump, this deal will not only bolster national security for both countries but also strengthen the supply chain for essential medicines, introducing a 10% tariff which could generate $6 billion in external revenues and create $5 billion in new export opportunities for farmers and producers.
Other Notable Points
During the announcement, UK Prime Minister Kiel Starmer called into the White House, describing the agreement as “a significant transaction” that would safeguard jobs and improve market access.
Additionally, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick disclosed that the UK is set to purchase Boeing aircraft valued at $10 billion. “The airlines will share the details of these orders themselves,” Trump mentioned, rounding off his remarks.
