Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton recently announced indictments and arrests in Frio County, involving six individuals, including a judge and other local officials.
The charges stem from alleged election crimes linked to vote harvesting schemes.
“Targeting vulnerable voters to manipulate elections is a serious violation of our democratic values,” Paxton stated.
The arrests include Frio County Judge Rochelle Camacho, former election administrator Carlos Segura, City Council member Ramilo Trevino, trustee Rachir Garza, school board member Adrien Ramirez, and vote harvester Rosa Rodriguez.
Camacho faces three counts, while Segura, Trevino, Garza, Ramirez, and Rodriguez each have one or two counts against them.
All five individuals have connections to Democratic candidates, as reported by various outlets.
Rodriguez was arrested on May 2, with Camacho scheduled for processing at a later date.
In August 2024, Paxton’s office executed search warrants in Frio, Atascosa, and Bexar counties as part of a lengthy investigation into vote harvesting allegations. On May 1, 2025, the case was presented to the Grand Jury.
Earlier, search warrants were executed concerning vote harvesting during the 2022 elections.
The indictment alleges that monetary compensation was offered in exchange for vote harvesting services.
“Texans deserve a fair election process, not one based on manipulation,” Paxton added, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring election integrity.
Audrey Lewis, the District Attorney, mentioned that all charges are classified as third-degree felonies, potentially resulting in fines of up to $10,000 and prison sentences ranging from two to ten years.
“Violating the rights of elderly or disabled voters is completely unacceptable,” Lewis stated. “We will safeguard the rights of all citizens to vote without fear or manipulation.”
Investigations are ongoing.
Segura commented on the charges, calling them “ridiculous,” but his lawyer advised against further discussion.
Details about the case have been highlighted in local news reports.
