Jeeno Thitikul tops the Mizuho Americas Open after a flawless, 8-under performance in the opening round.

The LPGA has kicked off its event this week at Liberty National in New Jersey, and it’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

What sets this tournament apart is the presence of 24 elite players from amateur ranks, particularly from the AJGA. It’s a lively spectacle that showcases the game of golf, though competition remains at its core.

In the opening round, Jeeno Thitikul managed to take the lead, finishing without any bogeys and completing the course 8 under par. Maintaining a clean scorecard certainly helps in boosting one’s chances.

However, Friday’s weather forecast indicates potential challenges ahead. For the moment, the leaderboard features Nelly Korda and last season’s standout rookie, Gabi Raffels, both sitting at four under par. Harlan Liu, last week’s Black Desert Championship victor, is in close contention at five under.

The weather could lead to varied scores as the weekend progresses. Celine Butier, currently in second place at six under, expressed that Liberty National can be quite demanding if one isn’t cautious.

“It certainly gives a bit of breathing room. With tomorrow’s weather being uncertain, it’s hard to predict what will happen. So, having a solid first round really helps ease the mind and allows for a bit of flexibility going into tomorrow,” she mentioned.

It’ll be interesting to see how things unfold this weekend.
