Melania Trump reveals a new stamp showcasing a portrait of Barbara Bush during a ceremony to honor the late first lady.

The two former First Ladies came together on Thursday at the White House to unveil a large stamp featuring a portrait of the late Barbara Bush.

The current First Lady announced that Bush, a significant figure in American politics, would be honored with a special stamp, during a ceremony attended by family and loved ones in the East Room.

“While she’s famously known for championing literacy, she also made strides for women’s empowerment, shifted the conversation on AIDS, and advocated for gay rights,” Melania stated to the audience.

Bush’s youngest daughter, Dorothy “Doro” Bushkoch, became emotional while delivering a speech in tribute to her mother, representing the Bush family.

However, former President George W. Bush and daughter-in-law Laura Bush, who had distanced themselves from Trump during his rise, were notably absent.

Interestingly, President Trump was also not present during the event. The reasons for his absence are unclear, but there had been notable tensions between him and Jeb Bush, Barbara’s son, during the 2016 Republican primaries.

Trump once remarked, “Jeb is a good guy, but he’s not the one who makes America great again,” hinting at their tumultuous relationship.

He had previously made remarks about George W. Bush that were less than flattering, noting a perception of him not being particularly sharp in interviews.

Despite any underlying family tensions, the atmosphere at the stamp unveiling was respectful and focused on Barbara Bush’s accomplishments.

Melania expressed admiration for Barbara, emphasizing her advocacy for women’s needs across various roles in society, whether as CEOs or homemakers.

Barbara Bush passed away on April 17, 2018, just months before her husband died on November 30, 2018. She was born Barbara Pierce and was a descendant of President Franklin Pierce.
