Third Unauthorized Immigrant Charged in Brutal Kidnapping of North Carolina Family

Another individual has been apprehended and charged with kidnapping in Garner, North Carolina. This incident involved a husband being restrained while his wife and toddler were forcibly taken from their home.

Eleodro “Leo” Estrada Hernandez, a 37-year-old undocumented immigrant from Mexico, faces multiple charges including two counts of first-degree kidnapping, one count of second-degree kidnapping, possession of a firearm as a felon, and two counts of armed assault.

Last week, it was reported that two brothers, 25-year-old Paola Duran Duran and 23-year-old Miguel Angel Duran Duran, were also arrested for their roles in this case.

Details from the Department of Justice (DOJ) outline the kidnapping plot involving these three individuals:

The federal indictment claims that Paola, Miguel (both wearing ski masks), and Hernandez (armed with a semi-automatic handgun) invaded the home on April 28, 2025. In the residence were a husband, wife, and their 13-month-old child. The indictment alleges that Hernandez and Miguel restrained the husband, covering his eyes and mouth, while demanding a ransom of $1 million. Afterward, Miguel and Paola forced the mother and child out the back door to a waiting vehicle, according to the documents. Hernandez eventually left the scene. The complaint notes that the husband managed to free himself and alert the authorities, providing a description of the vehicle involved. [Emphasis added]

Following the husband’s report, police issued an amber alert. Subsequently, the indictment states that the perpetrators abandoned the mother and child on a dirt road approximately 30 miles from their home. Fortunately, the victim was able to reach a nearby house. She contacted the police and returned home safely. [Emphasis added]

If convicted, all three individuals could face life imprisonment.
