Country music artist Randy Travis keeps using AI to release new music.

Randy Travis has been using artificial intelligence (AI) to create new music more than ten years after suffering a life-altering stroke.

In 2013, a stroke left Travis with aphasia, impacting his ability to communicate. Collaboration with AI and fellow country musician James Dupre enabled him to release two new songs in 2024, marking an impressive milestone in his recovery journey. He’s been actively touring since last spring as part of his “More Life Tour,” which he recently extended to fall 2025.

Mary Travis, Randy’s wife, noted that this process involved AI technology, highlighting how it aids in music production. She explained that, rather than just using a computer to generate music, the creation of songs took about 11 months, which is quite involved compared to producing an entire album.

“Music should reflect the artist,” she remarked, discussing the effort involved in ensuring that the final products captured the essence of Randy’s distinctive voice and style.

Thanks to AI, Travis has managed to return to the stage, with Dupre joining him as a special guest vocalist. When asked about extending the tour, Randy expressed his enthusiasm, indicating how much he appreciates the connection with his fans.

Mary added that they were surprised by how rapidly AI became available and its potential benefits. She expressed a desire to use their experience to set a precedent for how AI can positively influence the music industry.

Throughout his journey, both Randy and Mary have emphasized the importance of raising awareness about stroke and aphasia, as well as the significance of music education. They founded the Randy Travis Foundation to support these missions.

Mary reflected on their faith being a crucial part of their recovery, emphasizing gratitude for the years they’ve had post-stroke. “Every day is a blessing,” she said, pointing out their strong bond and support for each other during this journey.
