Matt Riddle discusses the recent exits of notable wrestlers.

Matt Riddle Reflects on Opportunities Following WWE Departures

Major League Wrestling (MLW) star Matt Riddle recently shared an optimistic perspective for professional wrestlers following a series of notable departures from WWE. The company has bid farewell to several superstars, including Braun Strowman, Dakota Kai, Shayna Baszler, Kaden Carter, and others. It’s worth noting, as reported, these departures don’t necessarily mean a full release, but rather a choice not to renew contracts.

Riddle himself parted ways with WWE in September 2023. Since then, he has made a mark in wrestling, performing with New Japan Pro Wrestling and various Lucha Libre events before becoming the world heavyweight champion in MLW.

He mentioned to Fox News Digital that being able to showcase his talent at a high level elsewhere has been a “blessing.” He acknowledged the challenges of job loss but reflected on how it can sometimes lead to unexpected opportunities. “It really depends on what you do after you get let go. Losing a job is unfortunate, but sometimes, it can turn out to be a blessing,” he remarked. “You just might need that nudge. Occasionally, a door must close for another to open.”

Riddle emphasized that transitions, while challenging, can lead to growth. He recalled his own experiences, noting that despite being fired from the UFC, it ultimately led him to where he is now. “Every time I’ve faced a setback, it’s opened up new paths for me,” he reflected.

In MLW, Riddle returned at the Kings of the Colosseum in 2024 and won the Battle Riot VI, followed by securing the World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Kojima Sato. He has since defended his title in various high-stakes matches, showcasing his resilience and determination.

Looking ahead, Riddle is set to defend his MLW World title against Donovan Dihak at Aztec Lucha in Chicago this Saturday. The event, scheduled for 10 PM, will be available to watch on YouTube.
