Newark Liberty International Airport radar displays go dark once more

Once again, radar screens failed early Friday at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport.

The incident took place shortly before 4 a.m., as reported by WABC.

In an audio clip, an air traffic controller warned at least two planes on the ground that their radar had gone dark.

During one exchange, a controller instructed a private jet traveling from Cyprus to maintain an altitude of over 3,000 feet in case it lost radar contact during its descent.

Another controller was also reportedly heard discussing the radar blackout with FedEx pilots.

The agency reached out to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) but did not receive an immediate response.

This incident adds to ongoing issues at the airport, which has been experiencing delays and cancellations. Previously, there were reports of air traffic controllers losing communication with aircraft for up to 30 seconds on April 28th.

The FAA has criticized the situation, citing a shortage of air traffic controllers and ongoing runway construction as contributing factors.
