NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley expressed his strong views on the topic of men competing in women’s sports during an interview with Dan Dakich from Outkick on Thursday. He is quite opposed to the notion.
“Let me put this in simple terms, Dan,” Barkley stated. “Men should not compete against women in sports. I’m not going to engage with all the nonsense happening in the world today.”
“Men shouldn’t play in women’s sports. If anyone thinks that’s okay, I think they’re misguided. I fully support the LGBTQ+ community. I fully support transgender individuals. But this issue is different.”
Earlier this February, just weeks after taking office, President Trump altered federal Title IX education regulations to restrict federal funding for schools permitting transgender athletes to compete as women.
Barkley quickly dismissed any suggestions to reconsider his stance in light of criticism.
“If someone has an issue with my opinion, I’m not changing my mind, so they’ll just have to deal with it. I believe it’s the wrong direction,” he concluded.
