Three Democratic members of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), appointed by former President Joe Biden, have been dismissed following actions taken by President Donald Trump.
White House officials disclosed on Friday that Richard Tulumka Jr., Mary Boyle, and Alexander Horn Salic were affected by this decision.
The report elaborated that Trumka and Boyle received notice of their dismissals; however, Hoehn-Saric was not prevented from accessing the office, though his staff was impacted.
These three Democrats were let go after a review by government efficiency experts at the CPSC office in Bethesda, Maryland. They indicated to the Washington Post their intent to challenge these dismissals legally.
Trump maintains that the President has the power to take such actions concerning independent agencies.
This marks a continuation of similar dismissals since Trump’s recent inauguration in January.
In March, he also terminated a Democratic member from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), as reported by Breitbart News.
The FTC is generally composed of five commissioners serving seven-year terms, with a maximum of three from the same political party. Following Trump’s action, two Republicans remain, while Mark Medor, nominated by Trump, is still awaiting Senate confirmation.
Additionally, Trump removed former second gentleman Doug Emov from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, along with other Biden appointees.
This firing is noteworthy since Emov had been tasked by the Biden administration to oversee efforts against anti-Semitism, which included a strategy that shifted from previous definitions to encompass extreme criticism of Israel. This change has not succeeded in curbing anti-Semitic sentiments that emerged after Hamas’ attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Trump also dismissed Congressional librarian Carla Hayden, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama and had a renewable 10-year term set to expire in 2026.
