New Statue Unveiled in Times Square
On April 29, a 12-foot bronze statue depicting a plus-sized woman, who described herself as “grounded to the star,” was unveiled in Times Square, New York. The artist, Thomas J. Price, explained that the sculpture aims to “confront preconceived notions of identity and expression” while fostering empathy among viewers.
However, Jill Savage from “Blaze News | The Mandate” expressed her skepticism, quipping, “So beautiful,” in a sarcastic tone.
It turns out Jill isn’t alone in her reaction. Curious about how Blaze’s audience might respond, she took to social media to gauge their thoughts.
In this segment of “Blaze News | The Mandate,” Jill showcases some engaging responses.
Blaze Media’s Steve Baker chimed in with his own thoughts:
Meanwhile, Kyle contributed a humorous remark that drew laughter from viewers.
G also shared his perspective, pointing out that the statue seems almost overly theatrical compared to similar representations in films.
Matthew Peterson, editor at Blaze News, weighed in with a more serious note, stating that the monument honors certain achievements. He compared it to Theodore Roosevelt’s equestrian statue, located outside the Museum of Natural History, which was removed in 2020 over claims of colonialism and racism, despite Roosevelt’s significant contributions to global research and leadership.
Peterson questioned the rationale behind the new statue, suggesting it seems to blame onlookers rather than uplift them. “That’s the opposite of ennobling,” he remarked.
He further cautioned against the trend of dismantling meaningful monuments while erecting those that might evoke negativity. “It’s really dangerous when you not only pull down good statues but also put up those that denounce you,” he stated.
