Bethenny Frankel reflects on the cancellation of “The Real Housewives of New York City,” describing it as a bittersweet moment in the show’s history.
Former cast members reacted to the news, which was described as a “poetic” end to a long-running franchise.
“New York City is my playground, and now ‘The Real Housewives of New York City’ has been cancelled. It feels poetic and bittersweet,” Frankel said in a TikTok post. “For me, it marks the end of an era, and for the show itself, it was a disaster alchemy.”
She characterized the cast as a “flawed group of real, urban women,” causing a unique shockwave through New York’s social landscape and media.
Yet, Frankel acknowledges the show’s shortcomings. “I was pandered by society and tried to fit 25 pounds into a five-pound bag,” she reflected. “You can’t please everyone; if you try, you end up pleasing no one.”
She also criticized the network for presenting “this shiny curated version of what New York City should be,” implying a disconnect between the reality of the city and its portrayal on screen.
Frankel pointed out that the reboot had a different feel, likening it to “a group of friends living in New York, filled with ridiculous, crazy, and incomplete elements.”
The show’s downfall was attributed, in part, to pressures from societal expectations. “People loved it because it was real,” she noted. “It was the most genuine representation of that genre.”
Bravo has expressed a desire to possibly bring the show back in the future, but fans might be waiting for a while. “We want to understand what went wrong and think there’s still potential,” an insider indicated.
However, the history of the franchise cautions against optimism, as past shows like “The Real Housewives of Miami” faced significant delays before their return.
Although hopes remain for a revival, any future cast changes seem likely. Frankel, who was part of the original lineup since the show’s launch in 2008, bids farewell to New York, having recently moved to Florida.
Frankel, 54, explained her move, stating it was driven by both personal and professional reasons. She and her daughter, Bryn, felt overwhelmed in their previous home. “It was just us two,” she shared. “In five weeks, we sold and bought houses in both places. We’ll keep this apartment, but I’ve sold the house and purchased a new one in Florida.”
